The Boston Red Sox have had sellouts for nearly 10 years. That could be coming to an end according to team president Larry Lucchino.
Lucchino believes the Red Sox sellout streak at Fenway Park will end sometime in April – maybe as early as the teams second game.
“It’s going to rest in peace, I think, sometime in April, I suspect,” Lucchino said Thursday. “That’s not a terrible thing. It’s an extraordinary accomplishment.”
The Red Sox have sold out 793 games dating back to May, 15 2003. While the streak is the longest in Major League Baseball it lags behind the Dayton Dragons, the Class-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, who set a record during the 2012 season when they recorded their 815th sellout in July.
Last season Boston was last in the AL East with a 69-93 record. Boston last made the playoffs in 2009.
