Robin Ventura plans to give Brent Morel repetitions around the infield in spring training. Morel has previously played third base for the White Sox but the signing of Jeff Keppinger has moved him to the bench.
Morel played in just 35 games last season while dealing with a back injury but he is healthy now and Ventura sees a different player.
“A slight injury, it just makes guys look different in the way they move around and for him he’s swinging the bat free and easy,” Ventura said. “It’s different when you get some spikes on and when you’re running around and doing stuff. His [injury situation] is more of longevity of being able to stay and play nice and loose.”
In parts of three big league seasons Morel is a career .230/.273/.338 hitter.
