Stanton takes BP at Yankees camp

Giancarlo Stanton took on-field batting practice Wednesday according to Bryan Hoch.

Stanton had been expected to start the 2020 season on the injured list as a result of suffering a Grade 1 strain of his right calf in late February but with the regular season start pushed back it is appearing the 30-year-old may be ready when games start.

Stanton was joined by DJ LeMahieu, Tyler Wade and Clint Frazier in the session.

Yankees hitting coach Marcus Thames said that Stanton “looks good. We did some stuff inside and then we took a couple of rounds on the field. Just tried to space ourselves out.”

Stanton appeared in 18 games last season for the Yankees hitting .288/.403/.492 with three homers. He had played in 158 games the previous season and 159 in his final season with the Marlins in 2017.
