When the Cubs play their first home game of the 2018 season, they may do so without star first basemen Anthony Rizzo.
Rizzo, 28, has been dealing with back tightness since last Monday. He sat out a few days before returning to action on Thursday but things were no better and the Cubs have been unable to use Rizzo even as a pinch hitter in their weekend series against the Brewers.
Rizzo says back first tightened Monday, then after 2 days off felt good enough to play through Thursday. Then got worse. Home opener not certain.

Now it appears that Rizzo may not be available for the Cubs home opener at Wrigley Field set for Monday.
The Cubs will give Rizzo additional treatmenet on Sunday but it’s hardly a given that he will be on the field for the contest on Monday.
