Padres place Brandon Morrow on DL with shoulder inflammation

The San Diego Padres have placed starting pitcher Brandon Morrow on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Morrow had pitched 33 innings for the Padres this season compiling a 2.73 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 23/7 K/BB ratio after winning a spot in the rotation this spring.

The right hander has been limited in each of the last two seasons but had not experienced any shoulder related problems. While the Padres have not released any information as to when Morrow will return, the pitcher seems to believe he will return by the end of the month.

With Morrow going to the disabled list the Padres have recalled left hander Frank Garces from Triple-A El Paso. Garces appeared in six games for the Padres earlier this season allowing a run in 5 2/3 innings. He may not be long for the Padres but gives them a bit of bullpen depth for the moment.
