Rangers place Derek Holland on 60 day DL

The Texas Rangers have placed left handed pitcher Derek Holland on the 60-day disabled list.

This comes a day after the team shut down the 28-year-old year for the next four to six weeks. Shoulder issues have wrecked Holland’s career over the past few seasons. He missed almost all of the 2014 season and will now miss until late June or early July of this season.

Holland’s lone start this season came on Friday night when he left against the Houston Astros with shoulder tightness.

For his career Holland has a 51-39 record and a 4.24 ERA.

Jon Edwards has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. The 28-year-old will occupy a spot in the Rangers bullpen for Saturday night. He very well could be optioned back down on Sunday when Stolmy Pimentel is called up. Edwards has a 4.32 ERA in 8 1/3 career big league innings.
