The Giants have released infielder Marco Scutaro.

Scutaro’s release has been days in the making after the Giants designated him for assignemnt a week ago to make room for outfielder Norichika Aoki on their roster.

While Scutaro will earn $6.67 million whether he is on the roster or not, the Giants must have been okay with paying him to sit at home.

Scutaro played just five games last season but gets another World Series ring. Back in 2013 he hit .297/.357/.369 with two home runs and 57 runs scored.

If Scutaro wants to play next season, he will find a cold market.
