The Astros and slugger Chris Carter have avoided arbitration agreeing on a one-year deal for 2015 worth $4.175 million.
Coming off a season in which he hit .227/.308/.491 with 37 home runs and 88 RBI, Carter will attempt to repeat those numbers in 2015 as a central figure in their lineup.
Now 28, Carter’s only draw back is his strike out totals. He struck out 182 times last season and 212 the season before.

Blue Jays claim Matt West off waivers
The Blue Jays have claimed former second-round pick Matt West off waivers from the Rangers.
West, 26, will look to claim a spot in the Blue Jays bullpen this spring after posting 3.34 ERA across 56 2/3 innings of work.
Making his big league debut last season West allowed three earned runs in four innings.
The Blue Jays designated Cory Burns for assignment to make space for West.
Burns, 27, spent all of 2014 at the minor league level posting a 4.95 ERA over 63 2/3 innings of work across two different levels.
