Orioles catcher Matt Wieters will be ready to play on Opening Day reports Nick Cafardo.

Wieters status of opening day has been in question after manager Buck Showalter said it was possible that the catcher would not be ready for opening day. Coming back from Tommy John surgery the agent for Wieters, Scott Boras, said he would be ready.

The Orioles are still looking for an option behind Wieters with Nick Hundley expected to go elsewhere. We will not know the true status of Wieters until spring training.

And while Wieters status for opening day is one concern, another is a contract extension.

Cafardo says that neither the Orioles or Boras are showing much urgency in completing. There were talks in 2013 but we have not heard anything since. Perhaps the Orioles workout something in season for Wieters who will become a free agent at the end of 2015. He played in just 26 games last year.
