Pablo Sandoval is leaving the Giants after three World Series rings.
The former Giants third baseman has reached an agreement with the Red Sox on a five-year deal worth $100 million. He will be joined by former Dodgers infielder Hanley Ramirez is a massive makeover for the Red Sox infield.
While the Giants surely wanted to keep Sandoval, the money they saved on his contract will be spent elsehwere. One of those places could be Cuban outfielder Yasmany Tomas – as previously reported the Giants had interest- but Ken Rosenthal notes that another target could be pitcher Jon Lester.
#SFGiants also could pursue SP. Savings on Sandoval could put them in play for Lester, says one person with knowledge of club’s thinking.

Lester would be quite a get for the Giants and one could easily argue he would be a better value than Sandoval over the course of his contract. He will not come cheap though as the Cubs, Royals, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Braves and of course the Red Sox have all shown interest in the left hander.
As for what the Giants do at third base? Rosenthal ponders a deal for Chase Headley.
