Houston Astros prospect Mark Appel has thrown 12 scoreless innings in his three starts in the Arizona Fall League.

After struggling to open the season at High-A Lancaster the 23-year-old picked it up upon a promotion to Double-A Corpus Christi.

ON Monday Appel threw five scoreless innings. Overall he has allowe djust four hits and owns a 12/3 K/BB ratio over his three starts.

“I don’t know if there’s one thing I can pick out and say this is what I’m doing differently than in the season,” said Appel. “I think it’s a combination of continuing to work hard, not giving up and trusting my stuff. I’ve gotten here because I’d been doing some things the right way and I’m continuing on the same track I tried to finish the season on in Corpus Christi.”

“My last game was probably my best up to that point and today was even better,” said highly touted prospect. “The difference today was my fastball command out of the windup. My timing was a lot more consistent. Whenever you’re able to do that and throw ball where you want to, baseball is a tough game.”
