John Buck elects to become free agent

After being designated for assignment earlier this week, John Buck has elected to become a free agent.

The 34-year-old Buck hit just .225/.289/.281 with a home run and six RBI in 32 games between the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angles.

Signs point to the veteran of 11 big league seasons having to settle for a minor league contract. Buck has shown some power in the past but has never really hit for much average or gotten on bases enough to be a reliable contributor. Someone will give him a contract this winter.
