Jeremy Hefner to undergo second Tommy John surgery

New York Mets pitcher Jeremy Hefner will undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in 14 months.

The 28-year-old will see Dr. James Andrews who is scheduled to perform the procedure Thursday morning in Florida.

Hefner re-tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow during a rehab game August 6 at High-A St. Lucie. He has not appeared in a major league game since 2012 and can be ruled out for all of 2015.
