Adam Dunn had said that he planned to retire at the end of this season. With the elimination of the Athletics in a one-game playoff against the Royals the 14-year veteran’s career is set to be over.

Dunn talked after the game saying “That’s probably it.”

“Let’s not make a bigger deal out of it. I love Bob [Melvin].” added Dunn following the loss to the Royals in which Dunn did not play. “He’s one of the best managers I’ve ever played for. He’s as good as there is out there. You wish the best for a guy like that. He’s awesome. Awesome.”

Dunn waited 14 years and 2,001 games to appear on a post season roster and never got to play in the game. One of baseball’s more consistent power threats early in his career, Dunn will finish with 462 career home runs.
