The New York Yankees have been without outfielder Brett Gardner since last Friday and they do not appear to be close to getting him back.

Gardner, 31, will miss what has been deemed a “significant amount of time” according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.

“I’m not sure when we’ll get him back,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “It’s a concern of mine.”

In 133 games this season Gardner was hitting .269/.342/.442 with 16 home runs and 56 RBI.

The Yankees do have a bit of good news coming their way. Pitcher Masahiro Tanaka threw 45 pitches on Tuesday and appears to be nearing a return. Currently they believe he could return to the mound in their September 19-21 series against Toronto.
