Here we go again. San Diego Padres closer Joaquin Benoit will be sidelined for the next handful of games as his right pitching shoulder is again acting up.
Kevin Quackenbush will again assume the closing duties with Benoit out of action. There currently is not a timetable for the return of Benoit.
“It’s all the same (discomfort),” Benoit said via the San Diego Union Tribune. “It was good for a couple of days. When I came back, I guess I didn’t give it enough time for the inflammation to go away. We’re trying to get everything to calm down and then start over.”
This is the same discomfort that Benoit experienced a few weeks ago which sidelined him.
“When I pitched in Arizona, I felt great,” said Benoit. “It’s a situation where you have to deal with it and let it try to get better on its own time.”
In 50 appearances this season Benoit owns a 1.58 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. He has nine saves on the season.
