Manny Machado will undergo his season-ending knee surgery on Wednesday’s.
While the Baltimore Orioles and their star third baseman will remain hopeful that he will be ready for the start of spring training that is far from a given. Machado’s time time will be eerily similar to his rehab from ACL surgery last year.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the surgery on the right knee of Machado in Los Angeles.
Machado suffered the injury on August 11 as he twisted his knee in the course of taking a swing at the plate. He will finish the season with a .278/.324/.431 line in 82 games with 12 home runs and 32 RBI.
The Orioles have also designated infielder Cord Phelps for assignment. He made just three at-bats during his time with the Orioles and is being moved to make a spot available for pitcher Miguel Gonzalez.
Gonzalez will rejoin the Orioles with Ubaldo Jimenez’s recent trip to the bullpen. Gonzalez has appeared in 20 games – 19 starts – posting a 3.80 ERA.
