Joaquin Benoit returned to action on Sunday picking up his eighth save of the season.
Benoit made his first appearance since coming down with a shoulder issue on Aug. 13. In his lone inning of work Benoit recorded a strikeout while closing out the game.
Kevin Quackenbush will head back to a setup role with Benoit back.
The save chance was set up in part by the work of starter Ian Kennedy.
Kennedy allowed eight hits and three runs in 5 2/3 innings of work against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was enough for his 10th win of the season making the third time in four years that he has reached double digit wins. Kennedy has a 3.75 ERA and 174/57 K/BB ratio over 163 innings.
Kennedy’s next start will come against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
