The Cleveland Indians have given relief pitcher Scott Atchison a one-year contract extension with a club option for the 2016 season.

Atchison will earn $900,000 during the 2015 season while the Indians hold a club option for 2016 worth $1 million that carries a $100,000 buyout.

The 38-year-old Atchison has been quite the offseason find for the Indians after being signed to a minor league deal this winter. In 55 games this season he has a 2.95 ERA and 37/9 K/BB ratio.

Andrew Cashner could return this weekend

San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner could return from his minor league rehab assignment this weekend.

Cashner made his third minor league rehab start on Monday pitching for Triple-A El Paso allowing three runs over five innings of work.

Thus far Cashner has only worked up to 63 pitches so his return could result in short start. The 27-year-old has been out of action since June 23 after experiencing right shoulder soreness.

In 12 starts this season Cashner was 2-6 with a 2.36 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP.
