Hosmer had been dealing with a right hand injury prior to being hit by a pitch at the end of July. Tests on Hosmer later revealed a stress fracture with a four to six week timetable originally floated around.
In 104 games this season Hosmer was hitting .267/.312/.377 with six home runs and 46 RBI.
Billy Butler has been seeing time at first base since the acquiring of Josh Willingham who has been hitting for the DH spot.
