After dropping to .500 on the season the Atlanta Braves pulled off a weekend sweep of the Oakland Athletics. On Monday the Braves kept to their new-found winning defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in their series opener at PNC Park.

The Braves scored six runs – five earned – in the first inning against Pirates starter Vance Worley. Jason Heyward and Andrelton Simmons each homered to start the game. It was over from there.

While the Pirates were able to tally home runs against Braves starter Ervin Santana in the second, third and fourth innings they were all of the solo variety. Santana would pitch into the sixth before giving way to the bullpen.

Despite the Braves recent win streak they have been unable to gain any ground on first place Washington who kept winning over the weekend as well.
