The San Diego Padres have designated outfielder Jeff Francoeur for assignment.
Francoeur’s three week stay with the Padres ends with a 2-for-24 line with seven strikeouts. With no one expected to make a claim on him Francoeur will either have the option of reporting to Triple-A El Paso or electing for free agency.
The 30-year-old Francoeur has not contributed much since the 2011 season while with Kansas City. In 239 games since the end of 2011 he has just a .222/.269/.346 line with 19 home runs and 67 RBI.
