While the Atlanta Braves initially indicated that shortstop Andrelton Simmons had simply tweaked his ankle there is some concern that the injury is more serious.

Simmons was in a splint and using crutches in the Braves clubhouse on Wednesday. Apparently Simmons’ ankle began to swell once he stopped icing it.

While the Braves are hopeful that Simmons can avoid the disabled list he can safely be ruled out of Wednesday’s contest. The Braves have an off day on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Simmons is hitting .249/.297/.340 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 107 games this season.
