Newly acquired starting pitcher Jon Lester has already played dividends for the Oakland Athletics earning a win in his first start with the team.
Lester allowed three runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings of work against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.
The Athletics provided Lester with a huge lead early and the left hander coasted from there before running into trouble in the seventh inning.
With the win, Lester is now 11-7 with a 2.59 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Up next for Lester is Minnesota.
Even the Yoenis Cespedes t-shirts were not enough to distract Lester. The Athletics chose to give up t-shirts of Cespedes despite his trade to Boston for Lester.
