Yankees pick up Martin Prado from Dbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks continued to trade away players from a team 14 games under .500 on the season.

Martin Prado was acquired by the New York Yankees for catcher Peter O’Brien and a player to be named later or cash.

Prado, 30, was hitting .270/.317/.370 in 436 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks this year while playing mostly third base. He was a large part of a deal that sent Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves in January of 2013. The Braves had also been linked to Prado as the 4 pm ET trade deadline approached this year in a deal that was said to be including BJ Upton.

O’Brien, 24, is hitting .267/.312/.593 with 33 home runs between High-A and Double-A in 413 plate appearances.

The Yankees also traded Kelly Johnson to the Boston Red Sox in a trade that saw Stephen Drew head to the Yankees. On July 22 the Yankees picked up Chase Headley from San Diego.
