The San Francisco Giants have signed second baseman Dan Uggla to a minor league contract. Uggla, 34, has been assigned to Triple-A Fresno.
Following a brutal first half that saw him hit just .162/.241/.231 with 40 strikeouts in 145 plate appearances this season the Atlanta Braves released Uggla.
The Braves remain on the hook for the remaining $19 million on Uggla’s contract. Uggla can opt out of his deal with the Giants if he does not get called up to the majors by Aug. 1.
