The Arizona Diamondbacks delivered some good and bad news on Monday.

Pitcher Bronson Arroyo has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery. While Arroyo had been hoping to pitch again this season he will now be out for a full year.

The 37-year-old Arroyo plans to pitch again in 2015 and for multiple seasons. In 14 starts this season Arroyo was 7-4 with a 4.08 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson also revealed that outfielder Mark Trumbo is expected to be activated after the All-Star break.

Trumbo is headed to Triple-A Reno for his rehab assignment.

Prior to his stress fracture in his left foot, Trumbo was batting .210/.264/.506 with seven homers and 19 RBI over 21 games.

While the 2014 season is a lost one for the Diamondbacks getting anything out of Trumbo at this point is a positive.
