The New York Yankees have acquired pitcher Brandon McCarthy and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Vidal Nuno.
McCarthy owns a 5.01 ERA this season but has a 93/20 K/BB ratio. That the Diamondbacks are picking up $2.05 million of the $4.8 million he is still owed helped facilitate a trade.
The Yankees will have McCarthy made his debut on Wednesday.
In order to make room for McCarthy on the roster the Yankees have designated Alfonso Soriano for assignment. After a strong showing for the Yankees last summer it has been downhill this year. He owns just a .221/.244/.367 line with six homers over 67 contests this year.
Owed just the minimum if a team signs him after his release, Soriano has a good chance of reemerging in the majors this season.
