Pittsburgh Pirates starter Gerrit Cole is slated to throw a side session on Sunday.
Cole, 23, is currently on the 15-day DL with shoulder fatigue. He threw a bullpen session on Thursday and manager Clint Hurdle believes the right hander is moving towards a return.
“I think that we’re taking the steps we need to take when we need to take them to get him back in a compete-to-pitch situation,” Hurdle said via the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
When Cole rejoins the Pirates he will return to a 6-3 record with a 3.64 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP after 12 starts this season.
