Oscar Taveras has been optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
The 21-year-old outfielder was called up two weeks ago hitting a home run in his second at-bat but had done little since then.
In 10 games with the Cardinals he hit just .189/.225/.297 with a home run and two RBI.
The Cardinals are getting Matt Adams back making this a relatively easy decision. Taveras was simply not going to get enough at-bats at the big league level right now to justify him being on the Cardinals roster.
Randal Grichuk will remain with the Cardinals for the time being.
