Major league baseball has suspended Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado five games and fined him an undisclosed amount of money following a bat-tossing incident which took place on Sunday.
Machado plans to appeal the suspension and Orioles executive VP of baseball operations Dan Duquette said a demotion is not out of the question.
Even prior to the suspension, Machado had been struggling this season hitting just .229/.283/.336 with four home runs and 11 RBI.
Oakland A’s pitcher Fernando Abad was not suspended but has been fined for throwing at Machado.
