White Sox: Jose Abreu to return Monday

The Chicago White Sox appear to have Monday circled as the return date for first baseman Jose Abreu.

Abreu, 27, was leading the league in multiple offensive categories when he went to the disabled list with a nagging ankle injury. The June 2 return date is no different than what had been reported a few days ago. It should mean that Abreu is in the White Sox lineup when they start a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“He still says it’s feeling better every time he goes out there,” manager Robin Ventura said, via Whitesox.com. “He’s tried a couple of different braces to try to alleviate what was there and to make it feel better and have more stability and things like that. It’s a work in progress of trying to find the right mix right now that is going to be the one he goes forward with and plays with.”

In his first 44 big league games Abreu had compiled a .260/.312/.595 line with 15 home runs and 42 RBI.
