Andrelton Simmons left Tuesday’s game with inflammation in his right ankle, something manager Fredi Gonzalez says the Atlanta Braves shortstop has been dealing with for weeks.

The Braves took Simmons out of the game on Tuesday night and currently have him listed as day-to-day.

“It started nagging me a little bit during the inning,” Simmons said via the Atlanta Journal Constituion. “Then it wouldn’t go away. I tried playing on but just didn’t feel like I was going to help my team. I was going to hurt them more if I stayed in there.”

Simmons received some treatment during the game and is hopeful to play in Boston on Wednesday.

“Hopefully (I’m) ready to go tomorrow,” Simmons said. “It’s not like a nine out of 10 pain. It’s not a terrible pain. It’s just a nagging thing, so hopefully it stops nagging.”

Simmons was the NL Platinum Glove Winner in 2013.
