On Wednesday the Philadelphia Phillies placed starting pitcher Cliff Lee on the 15-day disabled list. Lee has a strain in his left elbow.

Right now the Phillies are optimistic that Lee will be able to return to their rotation once his 15 days are up. He has been shut down for the rest of the week and will resume throwing later. Lee was scheduled to start on Saturday but currently the Phillies have his rotation spot TBA.

While Lee was placed on the DL, the Phillies recalled Darin Ruf from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Ruf will become an option for the Phillies in the outfield and at first base against left handers. Prior to his call up Ruf was hitting .261/.314/.391 with a home run in 12 games at Triple-A.
