The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Cuban defector Alex Guerrero to a four-year deal worth $28 million deal this offseason. On Tuesday Miguel Olivo bit off part of his ear.

Olivo and Guerrero were involved in a dugout altercation during Albuquerque’s 7-4 loss to Salt Lake on Tuesday. Guerrero was sent to the hospital as a result of the altercation after Olivo bit off a part of his ear. Guerreo will undergo plastic surgery and miss roughly five weeks according to ESPN Los Angeles.

Police visited Guerrero in the hospital but the second baseman is waiting to speak to a lawyer before filing a police report. The initial argument began in the seventh inning when Olivo became upset that Guerrero failed to tag out a runner on a throw from Olivo.

Signed to a deal to be a second baseman this offseason Guerrero has hit well at Triple-A but struggled to field his position. The Dodgers have began to move him around the diamond to find a place for him.
