The Seattle Mariners have recalled utility man Nick Franklin from Triple-A Tacoma.

Franklin, 23, could be an option at short stop going forward given the struggles of Brad Miller. In 30 games for Tacoma, Franklin was hitting .376/.481/.633 with seven home runs and 26 RBI’s.

Whether or not Franklin can translate those numbers to the majors this year remains to be seen. In 109 career games with the Mariners the 27th overall pick from 2009 owns a .221/.300/.377 line with 12 home runs and 45 RBI.

His call-up should result in playing time right away.

One player who will not be in the Mariners lineup for a while is Corey Hart who was placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

There is no guarantee that Hart will be ready to return once his 15 days are up.

Hart has failed to produce when in the Mariners lineup thus far hitting just .209/.295/.353 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 37 games.
