The Chicago White Sox have placed first baseman Jose Areu on the 15-day disabled list with a left ankle injury.

Abreu has been diagnosed with posterior tibia tendonitis (inflammation) in his left ankle and will now miss the next 15 days. It is a good bet that Abreu will be ready to return once his time is up.

It has been known for some time that Abreu had been nursing a ankle injury. For now Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn will handle first base duties. Abreu has been having a fine rookie season hitting .260/.312/.595 with 15 home runs and 42 RBI.

The good news for the White Sox is that Adam Eaton has been activated from Triple-A Charlotte. Eaton had been out with a hamstring strain since May 3.
