Mets outright Kyle Farnsworth off roster to avoid guaranteeing salary

Kyle Farnsworth has pitched as well as one could imagine for the New York Mets this season. Still it was not enough for the team to guarantee his salary for the season.

On Wednesday night the Mets optioned Farnsworth to Triple-A. Now the pitcher can either choose to accept the assignment or become a free agent.

According to the Star Ledger Farnsworth has described himself as “disappointed” and “very bitter,”

“Hopefully find a team to play against this team,” he said.

Considering Farnsworth’s comments its a safe bet that he will reject any minor league assignment.

On the season Farnsworth has a 3.18 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP to go with three saves. Someone could roll the dice on him for a low leverage spot in their pen.
