The Oakland Athletics have acquired first baseman and corner outfielder Kyle Blanks from the San Diego Padres.
Blanks, 27, was once a top 50 prospect and has a big body but has been unable to make that translate into stats at the major league level.
In parts of six seasons with the Padres he owns a .228/.310/.401 line with 28 home runs in 239 career games.
The A’s sent infielder Jake Goebbert to the Padres in exchange for Blanks. Goebbert, a former 13th round pick, was batting .257/.371/.505 with six home runs and 25 RBI in 31 games this season with Triple-A Sacramento. He’s viewed as merely a utility player going forward.
