First baseman Eric Hosmer hit his first home run of the season and collected three hits on Monday night but the Kansas City Royals still loss to the San Diego Padres.

Hosmer, 24, had not hit a home run in the Royals first 30 games this season after hitting 17 a season ago. The Royals will hope that the power swing forms in Hosmer going forward. He has a .296/.338/.416 line on the season.

Despite the best efforts of Hosmer and his teammates the Royals lost in 12 innings after their bullpen was unable to hold a lead going into the bottom half of the inning.
