Jason Grilli blew just three saves all of last season he has already blown three to start the 2014 season.
An All-Star a season ago, Grilli will head to the disabled list on Saturday with a strained left oblique muscle. The move will be made official on Saturday with Jared Hughes expected to take his place.
“It’s hard to pinpoint how or when something like this happens,” Grilli said. “It doesn’t matter how it happened — it did. It’s a long season, and we want to be precautionary. I’m only hurting myself if I can’t be 100 percent. It’s been a progressive thing. I’ll try to get healthy and be accountable.”
In eight games this season Grilli owns a 4.50 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.
