Jose Fernandez raked up 14 strikeouts in Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

Fernandez held the Braves scoreless for his eight innings of work in what turned out to be a 1-0 win for the Miami Marlins.

While Fernandez had his way with the Braves lineup, it was especially tough for Justin Upton, Dan Uggla and Evan Gattis who all whiffed three times each.

Braves starter Alex Wood was nearly as impressive pitching right innings and recording 11 strikeouts and one earned run in the loss. Wood finds himself 2-2 despite not allowing more than two runs in any of his four starts this season.

Fernandez finds himself 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA and 0.92 WHIP this April. He will face the Braves again next week.

The 21-year-old Fernandez won the rookie of the year award last season posting a 12-6 record with a 2.19 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. He previously had stated that his goal for 2014 was to post a 1.95 ERA. Thus far he is on his way.
