The Cincinnati Reds are expecting to get reliever Jonathan Broxton and catcher Devin Mesoraco back next week.

Broxton’s return would give the Reds an experienced option at closer while Aroldis Chapman remains out with a head injury,

Reds manager Bryan Price believes Broxton will be ready to come off the disabled list at the start of next week. He had been slow to recover from forearm surgery last August.

Broxton saved 23 games for Kansas City in 2012 and four more for the Reds after a midseason trade. He was used in a setup role last season in front of Chapman.

The Reds also expect left handed reliever Sean Marshall to come off the disabled list shortly thereafter.
Catcher Devin Mesoraco also could rejoin the club next week. He’s on the disabled list with a strained oblique.

Mesoraco hit .238/.287/.362 with nine home runs and 42 RBI across 103 games last season.
