Results of a CT scan on Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Nelson Cruz has come back clean.

Cruz took a pitch off his helmet in Thursday’s game against Tampa Bay. The pitch was a slow breaking ball and he scan was considered precautionary.

After being hit Cruz was able to stand back up before being attended to by team trainers.

Cruz will look to showcase himself for a full season after missing 50 games last year following a suspension for PEDs. In 109 games last year he hit .266/.327/.506 with 27 home runs and 76 RBI.

This spring Cruz has hit .289/.372/.447 in 13 contests. All signs point to Cruz being a pivotal point of the Orioles this season.

Orioles release Alfredo Aceves

The Orioles have also released relief pitcher Alfredo Aceves. After he Orioles informed Aceves that he had lost out on the final bullpen spot the right hander exercised his opt-out clause. He will now look to latch on elsewhere but finding a major league deal is no guarantee.

Aceves appeared in 11 games last season making six starts for the Boston Red Sox. He compiled a 4.86 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP.
