Brandon Beachy may need second Tommy John surgery

Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy may need to undergo his second Tommy John surgery in the last 17 months.

Beachy’s forearm strain appears to be more than previously reported. Beachy was told that his ligament was ok but that may not be the case.

Dr. James Andrews will view him on Monday and make a decision.

“I was confident when I left (Monday’s game),” Beachy said. “That was based on what I was told… Now it looks like it might be something else.”

Beachy appeared in just five games last season posting a 4.50 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP.

With Kris Medlen also set to undergo Tommy John surgery the Braves rotation is again looking thin even with the addition of Ervin Santana. The Braves are also expected to bet without Mike Minor to start the season.

The Braves could start the season with a rotation of Julio Teheran, Freddy Garcia, Alex Wood and David Hale.
