Angels give Mike Trout one-year deal

The Los Angeles Angels have given outfielder Mike Trout a one-year deal worth $1 million. It’s a far cry from the reported $150-$160 million deal that the two sides have been talking about.

Last offseason Trout was given a contract just $20,000 over the league minimum. This year the team was a little more friendly as the two sides have begun contract talks. If a deal is agreed to now the average annual value will not count against the luxury tax until 2015.

Trout, 22, has been a MVP candidate each of his first two seasons. Last year he finished with a .323/.432/.557 line with 27 home runs, 97 RBI, 109 runs and stole 33 bases.
