The San Francisco Giants signed outfielder Tyler Colvin to a minor league contract on Saturday.
Colvin, 28, will also receive an invitation to spring training after spending almost all of the 2013 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs.
The Giants plan to have Colvin compete for a reserve role this season. If nothing else he offers the team some depth. In parts of five big league seasons Colvin owns a .241/.289/.454 line with 47 home runs and 160 RBI in 384 games split between the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies.
Colvin had a major league deal with the Baltimore Orioles fall though in January after the team discovered a back issue during his physical.
