David Ortiz has made it vocal that he wants a contract extension. Now the slugger and the Boston Red Sox are in negotiations to make it happen.

Ortiz, 38, batted .309 with 30 home runs and 103 RBI last season as the Red Sox won their third World Series during his tenture with the club.

According to WEEI the agent of Ortiz,  Fernando Cuza, met with members of ownership as well as the front office.

Red Sox general manager Brian Cherington declined to speak about contract talks with Ortiz but praised his value to the team.

“As you guys know, we prefer not to talk about these things or to get into details of those talks publicly,” Cherington said, via Boston Herad. “David’s a very important guy. We all know that. Certain guys earn the right to have a hearing and the conversation. He’s certainly one of them.”
