Former Major League pitcher Curt Schilling has been diagnosed with cancer. Schilling did not say what type of cancer he had in a statement released by ESPN.

“I’ve always believed life is about embracing the gifts and rising up to meet the challenges,” said Schilling “… I’ve been so very blessed and I feel grateful for what God has allowed my family to have and experience, and I’ll embrace this fight just like the rest of them, with resolute faith and head on.”

Schilling retired after the 2007 season. In 20 big league seasons he had a 216-146 record with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He was a six time All-Star.
