The Kansas City Royals have avoided arbitration with outfielder Justin Maxwell.

Maxwell, 30, was eligible for arbitration for the first time. He had asked for $1.7 million while the Royals had offered $1.075 million when figures were exchanged recently.

Acquired mid-season from Houston, Maxwell compiled a .252/.328/.436 line last season with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 75 games.

There had been some thought earlier this winter that the Royals would trade Maxwell prior to Spring Training.

No financial terms of Maxwell’s contract have been released.
